Panama - A 20-year-old woman died at the Nicolás Solano Hospital on Wednesday night after being shot multiple times while visiting a friend in an area known as 'Mata del Coco' in the district of La Chorrera. Minutes before the armed attack, the woman had left her friend's house to smoke a cigarette. The victim's relatives transported her in a 'chiva' to the Nicolás Solano Hospital, where doctors declared her dead from multiple bullet wounds. Subcommissioner Yadira Gantes, executive of the tenth police zone of La Chorrera, reported that a 0.45 caliber weapon was found in a vacant lot, along with ammunition. Units of the National Directorate of Police Investigation and the Ministry of Public (MP) are advancing the investigation into this new homicide case. It was also confirmed that the victim resided in the Tulihueca sector, in the Barrio Balboa district, in La Chorrera. Subcommissioner Gantes emphasized that it is premature to indicate whether the case is related to disputes between criminal groups or an isolated incident. With this new case, the number of homicides registered in the province of West Panama rises to 18.
